Split-screen
On Android, split-screen functionality is automatically enabled for all apps.
Split-screen mode on an Android device allows you to use two apps simultaneously, one on top and one on the bottom of the screen. split-screen mode lets you alternate between apps, adjust the size of the display, and copy information from one app to the other.
To use split-screen mode:
- Go to the Recent Apps button
- Find the app you want to use in split-screen
- Tap and hold the app until a menu appears
- Tap split-screen
To exit split-screen mode, drag the black or blue bar that separates the apps in the direction of the app you want to close.
Other ways to use split-screen:
- Swipe from the right of the screen to open the edge panel
- Tap and hold the app you want to use, then drag it to the top or bottom of the screen
- Select the Split action below the active app in the Recents screen
iOS
Split-screen
iOS requires the software developer to explicitly support split-screen functionality.
On iOS, split-screen allows you to work with multiple apps at the same time. You can either open two different apps, or work with two windows from the same app. You can also open a third app in a smaller Slide Over window that slides in front of an app that is already open.
The Split View and Slide Over features must be enabled in Settings.
- Go to Settings, then tap Multitasking & Gestures.
- Enable Split View & Slide Over.
To open a second app in Split View:
- While using an app, tap the Multitasking Controls button (the three dots at the top of the app), tap the Split View button, then tap the Left Split View button to have the current app appear on the left side of the screen, or the Right Split View button to place the current app on the right.
- The app you are using moves to the side to reveal your Home Screen and Dock.
- Find the second app you want to open on your Home Screen or in the Dock, then tap it.
- The two apps appear in Split View.
