My home studio uses two floor-to-ceiling curtains to temporarily separate areas.

Dimensions

The rooms are 117" wide, and the ceilings are 9 feet (108 inches) high. Each of the two curtain panels 120" wide by 108" long.

Components

The curtains are held up by a long 2.5cm pole attached to a partition wall. I removed the round finials at each end.

The poles are attached with three bracket hooks, one on each end and one in the middle:

Frankenpod

I wrote an article discussing how I hang a remote-controled video camera from these curtain rods. I call the contraption that holds the camera while hanging from the curtain rod a frankenpod.

New Black Backdrop

I sent the following request to over a dozen vendors of custom curtains on Etsy. All of them were unable to provide what I asked for. I purchased some crappy curtains on Amazon for now. I am still searching for someone who can make curtains as decribed below.

I want to add another curtain to be used as a backdrop for photography. Unlike theater backdrops, I do not want a completely flat curtain; this curtain should fold in an "S" without pleats. Referring to the first image in this article, this curtain will be placed at the far end of the studio, 4 feet in front of the doors. That end of the studio has no light sources to worry about.

This curtain should resemble a black velvet theater curtain in that it should absorb light, so the viewer’s attention is on the talent. I believe that I require a directional-pile matte finish that drapes well. I am open to suggestions regarding the material: Velour? Commando Cloth? Charisma? Crescent? Apollo? Something else?

As with the other curtains, the dimensions of the room are 117" wide by 108" high, and I want the backdrop to be made in two pieces. Unlike the other curtains, this curtain would likely present better with back tabs instead of grommets. I am unsure how large the curtain panels should be; for a space 117" wide, should the total width of the panels be twice the width of the space when back tabs are used?

I intend to use the same model of pole. This pole must be suspended from the ceiling, not hung from the wall, so I will use three ceiling brackets.

I am still shopping for the black backdrop.

Interim Setup

I wanted better curtains, but that is surprisingly difficult to source. This will do for now.

Clamps are helpful when threading the curtains on the rod.
